Frequently Asked Questions

What is physical therapy?

Physical Therapy helps people recuperate from injury, accident or surgery. PT is also helpful when an individual’s body is not functioning properly, for example, after a fall, heart attack, stroke, or neurological disease, aging and infirmity. Physical therapy is necessary when the body is unavoidably changing to the point where it affects the function and quality of life. A physical therapist assesses an individual’s mobility, balance, and strength.

Step 1: Registration. Upon arrival, you will register at the front desk with your personal information. You will also fill out an intake form containing health questions. Kindly bring your doctor’s prescription, insurance card and other necessary documents.
Step 2: after registration. Our licensed physical therapist will be on hand to perform an evaluation. Your therapist may discuss your current or past medical history, the pain location, micro-cycle of pain, duration, frequency and any aggravators, or alleviators.
Step 3: the therapist will then perform a detailed examination which may include inspection, palpation, range of motion, manual muscle testing, neurological testing, and objective measures.
Step 4: from the results of the initial screening, your physical therapist will ascertain your care schedule and objectives. The plan of care may include treatments, therapy frequency and duration.
Step 5: treatment follows your initial evaluation. Interventions may include therapeutic modality, patient, patient education among others, to expedite your recovery.

The first thing that happens is a conversation with the therapist about your daily routine to unravel what you have been doing and how it feeds the problem. You might be re-taught how to lift things correctly and how to move properly. The therapist applies hands-on techniques like joint mobilization for stiff joints or massaging or stretching for soft-tissue work. The therapist may direct manual force carefully to increased mobility in joints, skeletal muscles and connective tissues
